To permit battered immigrants to be eligible to receive certain public and assisted housing

a qualified alien described in section 431(c) of the Personal Responsibility and Work Op-
portunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C.
1641(c)); or’’; and
(2) in subsection (c)—
(A) in paragraph (1)(A), by striking
‘‘paragraphs (1) through (6)’’ and inserting
‘‘paragraphs (1) through (7)’’; and
(B) in paragraph (2)(A), by inserting
‘‘(other than a qualified alien described in sec-
tion 431(c) of the Personal Responsibility and
Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996
(8 U.S.C. 1641(c)))’’ after ‘‘any alien’’
